Today we wanted to see how much abuse one of our wallets could take. What better test than Flat Coated Retriever vs. Chestnut Wingback + dog biscuit inside.
Weighing in at 32kg and with the innate ability to pop tennis balls, it didn't seem like much of a competition.
She began tentatively, nosing the wallet, trying to extract the biscuit without damaging it or the wallet. Within a minute this level of care disappeared as her sharp canines went to town on the leather.
The biscuit was soon in crumbs as a satisfied dog chewed contentedly on the slobber saturated Wingback. After 20 minutes her attention turned elsewhere and we were able to retrieve the wallet, remove the biscuit mush and leave to dry to inspect the damage.
Surprisingly the wallet survived its ordeal. Some surface scratches but no punctures. It may not be particularly fit for future use though but that’s down to the remaining crumbs and the knowledge that it has been all but swallowed by a retriever!
Lesson learned: If you feed your new wallet to your dog, expect to buy a new one.
