The Designer’s Mechanical Pencil.

The Wingback Mechanical Pencil is engineered to write as far as your journey takes you. With a wide 10mm (3/8 inch) diameter and diamond knurled grip, it sits comfortably in the hand to reduce writing fatigue, while the satisfying weight of its materials encourages more time to be taken with every stroke. A retractable lead sleeve protects the graphite and eliminates nib wobble, and a bespoke internal mechanism holds up to 2.4m of lead. It should keep you writing, sketching, drawing and designing as long as your creativity lasts. Every pencil can be personalised with a laser engraved inscription of up to 50 characters along the length of the barrel.

Considerations: Brass will develop a unique patina as its surface oxidises and interacts with the natural oils in your skin. This pen will quickly look like a timeless tool, but can easily be polished back to its original lustre by following these simple steps.

Personalised brass Mechanical Pencil by Wingback

Lást Maps is a petite design studio based in York, England, made up of Thomas Moore and Angelique Jones. We first partnered with these talented illustrators for the release of our Mechanical Pencil, engraving hand drawn maps depicting the north and south poles on our products. The match fit so well we had to work with these wild inspired creatives for the release of a new Artist Series focused on animal conservation.

“This illustration was inspired by our first encounter with an octopus, 15 metres below the waves. It glided so gracefully over the sand, changing colour as it moved,” says Thomas. “These ocean guardians are truly magical, intelligent creatures. It's very different!

I bought the Wingback X Last Maps Octopus Brass Mechanical Pencil. And I love it! It's beautifully made and solid - such that I don't feel precious about using it, nor live in fear that I'll break it. It's in use every day for both drawing and writing.
I really like the attention to detail in it's design. The little black rubber washers that ensure that each section screws in tightly to it's adjacent sections with no seams visible and without the possibility of any section wriggling loose for example.
The octopus design around the barrel makes this pencil so very different from anything else in my collection or that I have seen generally. It's an edition limited to 25 and each pencil is individually numbered.
A couple of suggestions: an instruction sheet needs to be included in the package. Loading the pencil with lead is not straight-forward compared to other pencils. A clip on Youtube explaining it all should be as well as, not instead of!
My other suggestion would be that the individual numbering be etched on the outside of the pencil where it can be visible, without having to pull the pencil apart to find it.
But overall, I'm enjoying this purchase very much and can highly recommend it.

Amazing quality

I personally know that many will see the prices and think this is a bit to much or at least that is what I thought however I give it a try and I will say the quality is second to none and I believe you will buy it once and enjoy it the rest of your life really classy too.

The Wingback Mechanical Pen is brilliant. We bought the brass pen for our son and he is delighted with it. Of course we tried it out when it arrived! It is perfectly balanced for writing and drawing and has the smoothest contact between pen and paper. It is a delight to use. It has perfect grip. I would like one myself! Our son loves it!

Perfection

All reviews are subjective. But suspend your bias. This pencil is adjacent to perfect. Visually understated, mechanically beautiful. An absolute joy to use. You will not regret getting one. Your heirs in 100 years will lament that you didn't bequeath more.
