The Wingback Mechanical Pen has been designed to last for decades, not months, epitomising our “buy once” philosophy. Machine turned from a solid bar of aerospace-grade brass, it is reassuringly weighty in the hand with a wide diameter to reduce writing fatigue and encourage time to be taken with every pen stroke. Jan Perit Kablan is an artist and architecture student based in Istanbul, Turkey. “I’ve always drawn illustrations inspired by nature," says Jan. "Bees, which bring equilibrium and balance to our shared habitat, have always fascinated me. They may be small in size, but each one has a big responsibility within their hive – and so do we to protect and live in harmony with these beautiful creatures.” Jan's art is available across our best-selling stationery, hip flasks and leather wallets.

One in every three bites of food we eat depends on pollinators, such as butterflies, birds and bees. They play a vital role in maintaining balance in the ecosystem, supporting the reproduction of thousands of types of plants, yet nearly one in 10 wild bee species face local extinction. A Napoleonic gift

I recently bought two X Jan Perit mechanical pens as wedding presents for a couple of New York friends. They loved the pens and their individual monograms.The bee design was particularly apt as both friends are historians specialising in French visual arts. After careful consideration, Napoleon chose the bee as the symbol of his rule as Emperor, making the pens a perfect Imperial gift!
