Here we reveal our latest limited edition artist collaboration, a tribute to cartographers of old and the explorer in each of us.

We’re delighted to welcome back cartography and illustration studio Lást Maps for our latest limited edition artist collaboration.

Their elegant miniature maps proved especially popular when released with our Mechanical Pencil earlier this year.

Now Lást Maps Polar Explorer design is available across our range of best-selling handmade leather wallets, stationery and adventure-ready 100ml Hip Flask.

Lást Maps is a petite design brand based in York, in the heart of northern England, made up of Thomas Moore and Angelique Jones.

As Thomas explains, the studio and the maps they’ve become known for, were first forged in the mountains of New Zealand’s Southern Alps.

“We would document each hike across the Alps with a hand drawn map,” he says. “Friends started asking for copies and pretty soon we were drawing their own adventures.”

Four years on, the pair have refined their craft and become specialists in handcrafted cartography and illustration.

“We love the way artisans used to capture things in ink around the turn of the last century, so wherever we can we tip our creative hat to this heritage and draw traditionally with pen and paper.”

The vast majority of Lást Maps’ work is inspired by the natural world – and adventures through it. 

“Maps have a real power to capture the imagination and lend themselves perfectly for telling these stories,” Thomas continues, pointing to an array of intricate, hand drawn maps around their studio that master storyteller J.R.R. Tolkien himself would be proud of. 

“A big part of our work is also about raising awareness for the wildlife we share these spaces with, and inspiring people to step outside.”

For this limited edition collaboration, Lást Maps have depicted the north and south poles, adapted from their Mini Map Trio artwork that can also be ordered as an A3 print from the Wingback Shop.

“This elegant collection of mini maps is a tribute to the decorative spheres that used to feature on old world maps,” Thomas explains.

“We wanted to feature the two poles together. It doesn't get much more extreme than these parts of the world, and just looking at maps of the far reaches of the planet inspires grand plans for your next adventure.”

Polar Explorer is also a tribute to map makers of times gone by, explorers who set out to navigate the poles, risking everything to further human discovery.

“This artwork, and the beautiful items it has been engraved on, should speak to the explorer in each of us,” says Thomas.

“We hope they will join you on your next journey, whether wild or urban, into the known or unknown, and serve as both a travel companion, tool for reflection and something that will inspire your next adventure.”
