A reinvention of the traditional hip flask.
The classic hip flask is iconic – worth its weight in gold (or bourbon). The usual shape is rectangular, with a small spout, but we believed we could create a flask that celebrates its contents in a more user-friendly, enjoyable, easy to clean and durable way. The result is the Wingback 100ml Hip. With a seamless, cylindrical design it is reassuringly robust, resilient and adventure ready. Every flask can be personalised with a laser engraved inscription on the removable base, which also doubles as a handy bottle opener. At a 100ml capacity, it’s the ultimate travel companion, designed to serve you on any journey as well it does at home.

Considerations: The Black Steel flask retains all the precision and corrosion-resistant qualities of our stainless steel version, while the tungsten carbide finish increases the surface hardness 9x. Any marks it picks up from regular use should be easily wiped away. However, the surface is scratch resistant, not scratch proof. Anything harder than the surface (diamond, some ceramics) or really aggressive use will be able to scratch it. which is why we recommend keeping it in its cotton sleeve when not in use, and carrying your diamonds in another pocket. Internally, 316 stainless steel is food and dishwasher safe and won’t alter the flavour of its contents. Before first use, give it a good wash then fill it to the brim with your favourite tonic.
Black Steel rivals the exotic look of Damascus steel or titanium, with a sub-metallic lustre that reveals a glimmer of the steel beneath the surface. It is applied using a technology called magnetron sputtering, where nano layers of tungsten carbide carbon are deposited onto the steel surface. Finished in Cambridge and laser engraved, assembled and packaged in London, all items can be personalised and made to order. It takes time, but so does anything worth holding onto.
With a surface 9x harder than stainless steel, 3.5x harder than titanium and incredibly low friction, our Black Steel items will be scratch resistant to virtually anything you will put in your pocket. Parts and mechanisms should never need to be maintained, let alone replaced. They will work as well for you today as they will for a grandchild who might inherit your collection in decades to come.
