1% FOR THE PLANET

Since 2014 it's been our mission to create exceptional everyday items that will be cherished for decades, not months.

To take a stand against a transient culture of disposability that is causing 2.12 billion tons of waste being dumped in landfill or in our water every year.

As part of our commitment to minimise our impact on the environment, from manufacture to delivery, we design for perpetuity, reduce waste and offset 100% of carbon emissions we generate as a business.

Now we're delighted to go one step further and sign up to 1% for the Planet, a global movement inspiring businesses and individuals to support environmental causes.

Responsibly built for your journey

1% for the Planet was co-founded by Yvon Chouinard, the founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, the founder of Blue Ribbon Flies.

Bonding over their shared love for the outdoors, Yvon and Craig agreed to give 1% of their sales back to the environment, whether they were profitable or not.

In that moment, back in 2002, a global movement was born.

“The intent of 1% for the Planet is to help fund these diverse environmental organisations so that collectively they can be a more powerful source in solving the world’s problems,” wrote Yvon Chouinard in his iconic book Let My People Go Surfing.

Since that first day, 1% for the Planet has certified more than $350 million in support to approved environmental partners, bringing dollars and doers together to accelerate smart environmental giving.

Now it’s our turn. As of October 2022, we will give at least 1% of all sales to support environmental causes and we’ve chosen Fauna & Flora International as our inaugural charity partner.

Fauna & Flora

Fauna & Flora International (FFI) is the world’s oldest international wildlife conservation organisation.

Listing Sir David Attenborough as Vice-President and based in Cambridge, England, it currently operates in 40 countries across Africa, the Americas, Eurasia and Asia-Pacific, running 120+ conservation projects around the world.

Established in 1903, its mission is to conserve threatened species and ecosystems worldwide. It’s an endeavour that couldn’t be more urgent.

Biodiversity is being lost at a rate 1,000 times faster than nature intended. In the UK alone since 1970, 41% of all species are in decline and 15% face extinction altogether*.

Since the 1500s, 133 species have been wiped out in the United Kingdom, including the lynx, wolf, apple bumblebee and common tree frog.

“From pole to pole and from deepest sea to highest mountain, mankind is making its mark. The case for saving biodiversity has never been stronger, clearer, or more pressing," says Sir David.

Endangered species

By influencing government policy and supporting grassroots initiatives, FFI has been instrumental in some of the most significant conservation efforts in history, such as helping establish South Africa’s Kruger National Park in 1926.

Today the charity continues to play a key role in safeguarding some of the world’s most endangered species, including the Sumatran tiger, mountain gorilla, African and Asian elephant, Siamese crocodile, Sunda pangolin, Saint Lucia racer snake and saiga antelope.

We hope our support will play a small role in helping FFI conserve and restore the rich biodiversity of this beautiful planet and will keep our community updated with charitable contributions throughout the year.
