The Wingback Mechanical Pencil is engineered to write as far as your journey takes you. With a wide 10mm (3/8 inch) diameter and diamond knurled grip, it sits comfortably in the hand to reduce writing fatigue, while the satisfying weight of its materials encourages more time to be taken with every stroke. A retractable lead sleeve protects the graphite and eliminates nib wobble, and a bespoke internal mechanism holds up to 2.4m of lead. It should keep you writing, sketching, drawing and designing as long as your creativity lasts. Every pencil can be personalised with a laser engraved inscription of up to 50 characters along the length of the barrel.
Metal: Aerospace-grade stainless steel 304 from Europe, CNC machined in Birmingham, UK.
Mechanism: Bespoke all-metal mechanism made in Iwaki, Japan.
Sleeve: Oeko-Tex double thickness cotton sleeve from Poland, Europe.
Finish: Laser engraved, assembled by hand and packaged in London, UK.
Mechanism: Fits 2.4m of 0.7mm or 4.8m of 0.5mm diameter lead (40 refills)
Engraving: All inscriptions are in capital letters and run along the length of the barrel
Considerations: Stainless steel doesn't require additional care. This pencil will withstand almost anything you can throw at it without losing a shade of its original glory.

From design and materials to manufacture and packaging, we don’t cut corners. Our aerospace grade metal is sourced from Europe, machine turned by our manufacturing partners in Birmingham, then laser engraved, assembled and packaged in London. Everything can be personalised and made to order. It takes time, but so does anything worth holding onto.
Brass will age as its surface oxidises and interacts with natural oils in your skin. Like our leather hides, it will develop a rich patina, becoming more unique over time, yet can be polished back to its original lustre. By contrast, stainless steel is harder and more corrosion resistant, meaning it won’t require additional care to keep it looking like new.
I've had love for mechanical pencils for the last 40 years.
Being an award winning art director/graphic designer and illustrator I believe pencil and paper should always come first, even though the final creation is inevitably digital. Unless I lose this one, I'll never have to buy a pencil again.

Great service - arrived swiftly, well packaged and perfectly engraved.
Lovely tactile product. Great to hold, well balanced, exquisitely engineered.
Same as with the pen: it’s a fidgeter’s dream!
But even better, as the pen frustrates me in being restricted to practical but skippy ballpoint = minus several million credibility points.
3 wallets, a passport holder thing, a pen, pencil, key ring money holder and several wallets given to godchildren.
I’m clearly an addict.

WingBack Mechanical Pencil
This is simply the best mechanical pencil, perfectly weighted, gorgeous finishing details, and great drawing performance. I am using for all my industrial design project work. I also went for the brass version and it is building some nice patina with use.

High Quality Product - Very Satisfied
I purchased the mechanical pencil and could not be happier with the product. It is the cleanest and most comfortable mechanical pencil I have used and absolutely worth the price.

Design flaw and too expensive ultimately
I have ordered a black steel pencil and I give it a two star rating for the following two reasons:
1. While the pencil is beautifully done, including the inscription, the small steel bit, which holds the polymer lead and which comes out when writing, does not fully submerge back into the pencil when not in use. It still sticks out a fraction of a millimetre. Not sure this is intended but at this price point, it lacks detail for me
2. I ordered the pencil through the wingback European website and paid in Euros (to be shipped to Continental Europe). The pencil and all other items costs €234. I was very surprised that I had to pay an additional EUR63 for duty and customs. This was not clear to me when ordering (although as was pointed out to me later, this information was mentioned in the ’shipping information’), especially as the option was to pay in EUR, rather than GBP. I was under the (false) assumption, that the price quoted in EUR is the final price I have to pay. Given Brexit, I should have know better. I did mentioned this to the company and I got a prompt answer and I was offered a voucher to for my next purchase. This is nice, but a bit pointless as I have to pay duty again….
Unfortunately, not worth it for me.
I'm very sorry to hear that you're not happy with your pencil, the design means the retractable tip moves freely and should retract completely up to the surface of the mechanism. When retracting the tip, please could you try to press it in using a fingernail or surface of a table. If this does not work then it would suggest a problem with the mechanism which we can fix or replace for you. Please just reply to your order confirmation email and we'll help out.
Regarding the customs fees, we're trying to be as clear as possible in displaying to international customers that they may need to pay import fees. We even link through to a useful resource to help you work out if you will need to. The U.K. leaving the European Union has not been easy for small businesses, we don't profit at all from these fees and we'd rather not have to deal with the paperwork or lost customers because of it, but unfortunately it is unavoidable at the moment.
Kind regards, Alasdair
