Explore how we design and make

A special edition of our pocket fountain pen by the Lást Maps studio, limited to 25 pieces and engraved with 'World Explorer', a contemporary map of the world inspired by hand cartography. Machined in England from solid brass, stainless steel or ceramic-coated brass, with a knurled grip and smooth iridium-tipped nib. The brass will patina with its journeys; the steel and ceramic wear their marks far more slowly.

Description

Special edition. Limited to 25 pieces. Allow 1-2 weeks for delivery.

A special edition of our versatile machined pocket fountain pen  by Lást Maps, with a knurled grip designed to let ideas flow. Featuring a smooth writing iridium tipped nib and designed for international standard refills.

Machined in England from a solid block of brass, stainless steel or ceramic coated brass, each item is crafted with precision and built to last. Over time, the brass version will develop a rich, patina that tells the story of its journey, making every piece unique and full of character. The hard steel and abrasion resistant ceramic coated British Racing Green pieces will remain maintenance free with marks of their journey much harder to come by.

The artwork for this piece comes from the Lást Maps studio:

“Inspired by hand cartography, “World Explorer” is a unique contemporary yet timeless map of the world, celebrating the meeting of old and new to inspire your next adventure, whether on the page or on travels around the Globe.”

Good Built Poor Ink Flow, Much thinner and smaller than expected.

I got the british green with world map. Built of the fountain pen in terms of material is excellent, its solid. Its much thinner and smaller than your other fountain pens like Montblanc or Japanese ones so be mindful of that. Has a nice weight to it though. Using it without the cap would be like a mini pen.

I had bought the Fine nib and as you can see from the photos the ink flow is not consistent. Also it only takes small cartridges so your ability to use different inks and colors may be limited.

My purchase experience was quite bumpy. With a total order of over $1000 they missed there own internal deadline to get it shipped. Their email goes to the AI Bot (called Henry) and for over two weeks there was no update or communication. Finally some how managed to get in touch with one of their team members and then the order was processed and shipped within couple of days, makes me think it was just sitting aside and probably got lost.

I love the other journeyman pen I got from them but would not recommend the fountain pen. Wish they clarified some of the details like the size of the pen and that it only takes a small cartridge.

HI AVM,

Thanks for getting in touch and sharing your thoughts. The bock nibs can be a bit spotty the thinner you go, with an Extra Fine nib like yours I'm not surprised you didn't feel the ink really flow. I tend to suggest Medium and up to people when asked. Get in touch if you want to talk about that at all.

The World Explorer British Racing Green fountain pen was a pre-order item at the point you ordered, it takes a couple of weeks for the products to be coated and baked so the lead time is always a bit longer than the 10 working days we say for regular personalised orders. I'll make sure to feedback to the team and see where any of that messaging could be clearer to avoid any disappointment.

We've implemented the Henry chat to try and take a bit of strain off the 'team' (just me at the moment), it's a work in progress and I do apologise if there was any issue with that. We're always checking and improving so this is super useful feedback -thanks!

All our product details are in the 'details' section below product titles which gives useful info about dimensions, weights and cartridges so you're not surprised when your pen arrives!

Thanks!

Well made but…..

I bought mine through Amazon. It arrived quickly, as one would expect. The pen is well made and is attractive. Mine has the medium nib. The line width is what I have come to expect from a fountain pen with an advertised medium nib. The only downside to the pen is the nib tends to dry out if it is not stored with the nib pointed down .

On the whole I am pleased with the pen. I may order the base to ensure that it is stored properly.

if i can be critical it would be to say there is

if i can be critical it would be to say there is not enough difference between the top and bottom so frequently unscrew where the cartridge goes. Otherwise a lovely pen that writes well and this is particularly hard to find for a left hander

British Racing Dream

I bought the British Racing Green fountain pen in Extra Fine. It looks great and writes flawlessly. I really appreciate the precision engineering that went into this pen. The fit and finish on the pen is perfect. Well done!

a new twist on the fountain pen

Clever design twist (literally), securing the cap at its end with a screwthread. Outstanding design and manufacture.

Lovely pen. Very happy with my purchase. The engraving was precise and the durability is terrific. Will last forever. My only regret: I ordered the stub nib, but the 1.5 is impractical for most of the writing I do. I wish I had ordered the fine. Replacing and/or tuning the nib will be difficult.

A beautiful piece of engineering

I recieved this as a gift and can only say what a fine piece of engineering it is. The machining and finish is first class and I look forward to writing with it every day.

Outstanding. Yes you can by a Lamy Safari for peanuts but this is different. Its English engineering with a german (i think) tip. Expensive but will outlive me.

Great Craftsmanship, Average Nib.

The pen itself has excellent build quality and feels made to last. Unfortunately, it arrived dry and wouldn’t write because the nib was a closed slit. However, the nib can be easily replaced, which is a big plus !

A work of art….

My new fountain pen is an absolute work of art. The craftsmanship and sheer quality of the item is exemplary. I love the feel of it as I write. It’s an extension of my hand and feels so balanced between my fingers. Now all I have to hope is that is quality is reflected in my writing. I would thoroughly recommend.

An exquisitely engineered pen which feels great in the hand and writes beautifully!

This is a triumph of a pen; it looks wonderful, is put together beautifully, write super-smoothly straight away, and feels great in the hand whether or not you choose to post the cap. A perfect marriage of engineering skill and aesthetics in a truly remarkable fountain pen. Oh, and these people know how to do customer service too... Enjoy!

Great travel pen.

I took this pend to Italy for two weeks as my only pen and it worked beautifully. I had to smooth the nib because out of the box it was scratchy. Also, sometimes metal on metal threads are not very smooth and I can fill grining a little. That said, still a wonderful pen and highly recommended.

Lovely pocket pen

I’ve had my titanium wingback for a couple of weeks now and I like it a lot. It’s well made and looks great. Personally, for it to be 5 stars, it would be a little lighter and a little wider. But some people will love it as it is.

Pocket Perfection

As someone who has been writing with a fountain pen for 30yrs, I spent a long time deciding on my next purchase- wanting a pen for daily use with a modern industrial aesthetic. Narrowed it down to a few options, and let my kids decide between them as a father’s day gift. Well- they nailed it. The Wingback pen is exactly what I was hoping for- a pocket pen which is beautifully made, and which encapsulates the idea of quiet luxury which I was after. The fit and finish is excellent, and the Bock nib in medium is a pleasure to use, with zero leaks and is always ready to start writing given the well sealed cap. Couldn’t be happier with the purchase, and hope other Wingback products are in the ‘wings' for me down the track.

Hi Remi,

Thanks so much for this thoughtful review. So glad to hear that you love your fathers day gift and it is serving you so well.

Sounds like the fountain pen could be the start if your Wingback collection!

Hope you have a lovely day!
