Precision-engineered to feel weighty and balanced in the hand, this Mechanical Pen is finished with a 4µm tungsten carbide layer: 9x harder than stainless steel and usually reserved for high-performance cutting tools. Its pressurised cartridge, designed to write in space, keeps every stroke smooth, consistent and controlled. An ultra-hard, scratch-resistant writing tool built to withstand daily use for a lifetime.

Fantastic written instrument

This is my second Wingback pen , I have the stainless steel version and I wanted to add the brass version to the collection.
I love that it's British and really well machined , the pen is nicely weighted with a good balance.
The mechanism is satisfying and smooth.
I quite like the Fisher cartridge but there are other options available which I have in my stainless version.
I love the warmth that brass has ,I've cleaned it up a few times and it darkens back up nicely over a few days of use.
A benefit of brass is that's it's antimicrobial which is a good thing .
Wingback are a great company making useful well designed items that'll last the test if time.

Love the pen, not the cartridge

Initially, I raved about this pen and I continue to find its construction, finish and balanced weight to be awesome. However, the Fisher Space Pen ink cartridge is horrible. I should have looked at the online negative reviews of the ink cartridge before purchasing this very expensive pen made even more expensive by tariffs. In an effort to give the benefit of the doubt, I ordered a replacement Fisher cartridge which was no better. At Wingback’s suggestion, I then ordered a Schmidt MegaLine 4889 Pressurized Refill which was an improvement but still fell short compared to the ink flow of even inexpensive non pressurized cartridges. I did not purchase this pen so that I could write in zero gravity. For the record, Megan at Wingback has excelled at communicating with me and acknowledging my concerns. I urge Wingback to find and supply a cartridge that enables their unique pen to…write right!

Hi B.C,

I'm so sorry to hear you're having such a terrible time with the Fisher cartridges, we know they can be a bit polarising so designed the original mechanical pen to also take Schmidt Megaline 4889 cartridges. I personally find them to give a superior writing experience overall.

All the info is on our product page but more than happy to discuss over email too, just get in touch hello@wingback.co.uk and I'll do whatever I can to assist.

Thanks

Beautifully & Wonderfully made Pencil.v

I’ve had my Brass Wingback Mechanical Pencil for a couple years now…so you can really trust this honest review,
Everything about the Wingback Mechanical Pencil is well thought out,
precise, and meticulously made…
The only thing I would add to this review that isn’t obvious is that I’d like to have one in a 0.5 lead size. I’m very happy and satisfied with everything about my Wingback Mechanical Pencil.
Thank You Wingback!
Respectfully,

Hi Jeffery,

Thanks for the lovely review!

Just to let you know - you can buy the different pencil mechanisms seperately if you would like to interchange the 0.5mm mechanism with the one you already have. You can do this via the website or get in touch if you have any questions. Our email is hello@wingback.co.uk

Hope this helps!

A simple non spoken statement!

I'll start this is an early Kickstarter original release pen that I have hunted down for quite some time!

I took up written again as a stress release....yep you read that right !
I find practicing letters and numbers therapeutic.

I purchased a brass pen from a company that rhymes with bridge and I was pretty disappointed.

A little internet research later and Wingback appeared .
A pen beautiful in its simplicity, it's wonderfully machined , feeling like it was part of something from Britain's golden era of industrialism ! Each knurled part is perfect while the rest of the pen is perfectly weighted to write with and sized to carry easily.
The pen in steel has a really nice finish and I've used it every day on a regular basis and it still looks new .

I thought I'd miss a clip but the looks you get when you slip this pen from it's sleeve is an event in its self.
The mechanism is very satisfying and smooth to use .

I love that this pen is made in Birmingham England. I'm proud to use it. The Triumph collaboration was a real winner as our the newer collaborations.

Writing with this pen is fantastic, I changed out the medium fisher cartridge to a bold as I find they're smoother flowing for those long note taking sessions.
I really like fisher cartridges as I work in a busy kitchen and writing on labels and paper is a nessessity in all situations and I've never had a problem with fisher cartridges.

I'd like to collect all the variants over time.
I have a few different pens but it's the one I find myself using for everything.

A present for a mechanic.

I bought this pen for my partners Christmas and knew immediately he would love it, especially the weight and craftsmanship. He is delighted with it, thank you very much.

If There's a More Satisfying Ballpoint to Write With, I Don't Want to Know About It.

Seriously, I loved my Titanium Wingback Pen so much that within a month of bringing it to the office, I came back and ordered this Brass Pen to carry around in a custom planner I'm getting from somewhere else. The Pen beat the planner to my house, so I've had several weeks to evaluate the difference in materials. Folks... it's a BIG difference. In addition to being every bit as precise, tactile, and comfortable as its sibling, the Brass Pen feels about twice as heavy, and that's actually a good thing. Why? Because my Titanium work Pen's lightness is ideal for when I need to be accurate and efficient (and the sturdiness for when I run it over with my rolling chair again), but the conscious intent that the Brass Pen makes me put into the process is perfect for when I want to live every line I write. It's great for my intentional note-taking, journaling, and scheduling, but you could probably use it for whatever you wanted - it's that good a pen.

In fact, just by way of wrap-up, I'd go so far as to say anyone with the means and the opportunity for use should look into trying a Wingback Mechanical Pen. They're a bit short, which takes some getting used to, but that's my only complaint with regards to the pen itself - they're pitch-perfect marvels besides, and the Fisher Space Pen cartridge is worth every penny (and can probably fit your other pens too, with an adapter). I can't vouch for Wingback's fountains and pencils, but they do make those too, if ballpoints aren't your speed. Then again, if ballpoints aren't your speed... Why are you reading this review?

Great fiddle widget .. and pen!

My Partner bought me a Wingback pen for my birthday with a lovely enscription on it. I use it daily. I find it great to use and sometimes, just to fiddle with in meetings! The quality is so great. I work in engineering and have shown it to colleagues who also appreciate the craftmanship of this writing artwork.

Thank you.

Simply beautiful! Something I use every day!

My wonderful wife bought me the Titanium Mechanical Pencil for my Birthday, and the Titanium Mechanical Pen for Christmas (lucky boy!!)
There is true beauty in simplicity; a timeless design with full functionality. I've been using the Pencil every day since it arrived at the beginning of July, and I've used the Pen every day since Christmas! They come everywhere with me.
I work in a Manufacturing/Production environment, and I have no fear with using them on the Shop Floor - they feel indestructible! And they're a pleasure to write with.
Things I love the most:
- Their size; they fit easily into any pocket!
- Their design; beautiful and always a conversation starter
- Their robustness; they feel like they'll last forever
I have my eye on the Fountain Pen now, to complete the set!

A beautiful pen, made from a magical metal.

Alasdair puts a lot of care and passion into his designs. This pen shows that. The choice of Titanium is great, as it is lighter than steel and has excellent corrosion resistance.

Mechanical Pen - Titanium :: Excellent

Mechanical Pen - Titanium

I bought the pen with my own money. No conflicts of interest in this review.
I love the pen, and have been using it daily since the day it arrived. I think the weight of this pen is perfect, not too hefty but not plastic light either.

I also love the sleeve it came with the pen, very handy when carrying it with other tech.

The only thing I would change would be to use a Parker style G2 refill instead, that way we would have significant more options for refills.

Mechanical Pen - Titanium

I received the pen a month or so ago and absolutely love it. The mechanism is very positive and smooth and the pen itself has a nice feel / weight to it. Have ordered a fine point refill as I prefer a lighter weight line. :-)

Struggling to resist a pencil - the brass looks good……

Didn’t think I’d love this so much

I bought this mostly out of curiosity as it is a great looking pen. Now it’s my go-to! It’s perfectly balanced, the weight is spot on (a nice heft but not too heavy) and it’s super comfortable to write with. I love the knurling - provides great grip but doesn’t dig in. All this is a long winded way of saying I quickly fell in love with the pen when I got it! Oh and the patina…

New best friends.

I ordered an engraved brass Mechanical Pen and Pencil. They arrived on the 22nd June. What can I say?.... Wow.
For many years I had used a Kaweco Special Brass pencil which I was always very happy with but I fancied a change and something a little more special. I decided to treat myself to a Brass YStudio Brass pencil.... So, so disappointed with that, but that's another story.
It was about then that I heard about Wingback (On Facebook of all places) and was impressed with what I saw on their website, so decided to push the boat out and buy a Brass Mechanical Pencil...
The next day I was ambling through the Wingback website (As you do..) and decided to treat myself to a pre-order Titanium Mechanical Ball Pen.
Another day passed and another wander through the Wingback website and I decided that maybe I ought to buy a Brass Mechanical Ball pen to keep the Brass Pencil company, being so far from home. (I was working in Tanzania...)
So there it was.. Three writing instruments in three days... Now just the wait for the arrival.
The two Brass instruments arrived in about two weeks which was pretty good seeing as they had to be made, engraved and travel 6,000 miles.
What are they like?? Bloody brilliant.
The pencil is compact, robust, beautifully balanced and an absolute joy to use. It goes everywhere with me and I use it for most of my work, being in my hand for probably 5 hours a day and when not in my hand it's in my pocket, where it sits perfectly due to its perfect size. It has very quickly become a huge and invaluable part of my life and work.
There are however times when you need a pen, official documents are not looked upon favorably when signed in pencil. That is when the pen comes into its own, the perfect companion again. Also slipping easily into my pocket when not in use.
This fantastic duo has been across the dusty planes, out on the Indian Ocean, through forests so dense, you could'n tell if an elephant was standing a meter away from you. (Unless it was reciting poetry)
I have no downsides that I can possibly report on these beautifully crafted writing pieces. I find them perfect for me.
Would I change anything? No.
Would I add anything? Yes..
Not to these actual instruments but I would love to see a Copper range (Though I am aware it is a much softer metal, but I love the feel of it)
The other would be a polished brass range, not polished as in lacquered but polished to an absolutely smooth finish so as to show every mark and fingerprint...
But that is just me, and I am odd...
I had most of my dealings at Wingback with Megan. What and angel, a lovely lady and fantastic ambassador for the company.
Thank you all so much for providing me with such marvelous writing instruments.
I will be back to add to my collection.
Best regards,
Andrew.

About us

Since 2014 we've been blending technical engineering with traditional craft to create refined tools that are guaranteed to last a lifetime. We design every product ourselves, from a studio in London's iconic Oxo Tower.

The metal is machined in England, the leather hand-stitched in London, and our waxed cotton bags made in England. A few pieces are made overseas, by specialists who do that particular job better than we could here, and where that's the case we say so on the product page rather than leave you guessing.

Wherever a product is made, it's designed here and carries the same guarantee. If something stops working as it should in normal use, we repair or replace it, however long you've owned it.
