At Wingback we pride ourselves on sourcing the best raw materials from around the world – while minimising our impact on the environment at every step. Learn more about our metal below.

From our knurled key fob to brushed steel hip flask, we use aerospace grade metal sourced from Europe, machined in Birmingham, and laser engraved, assembled and packaged in London.

Here’s everything you need to know about our metal.

Brass is bold. Eye-catching yet understated, its mechanical properties make it ideal for machining and it ages impeccably well. Just like our leather hides, our brass products will patina, becoming more unique over time.

Our brass products will quickly look like a timeless heirloom, yet they can be polished back to their original condition with some Brasso.

Stainless steel embodies strength. Robust and highly corrosion resistant, it is fractionally harder than brass – but lighter too. It will withstand almost anything you can throw at it without ever losing a shade of its original glory.

Our steel components won’t require additional care. However, some of our products require a quick clean before first use.

Black Steel rivals the exotic look of Damascus steel or titanium, with a sub-metallic lustre that reveals a glimmer of the steel beneath the surface.

It is applied using a technology called magnetron sputtering, where nano layers of tungsten carbide carbon are deposited onto the steel.

Our Black Steel items are made in Birmingham from stainless steel, finished by the above process in Cambridge and laser engraved, assembled and packaged in London.

It takes time, but so does anything worth holding onto.

BUILT FOR THE LONG HAUL

With a surface 9x harder than stainless steel, 3.5x harder than titanium and incredibly low friction, our Black Steel items will be scratch resistant to virtually anything you will put in your pocket.

Parts and mechanisms should never need to be maintained, let alone replaced.
